Your Gold Coast dentist experts in wisdom teeth and surgical* dentistry

Wisdom Teeth

Most people don’t get their wisdom teeth (also referred to as third molars) through until their late teens or early twenties. Most people grow 4 wisdom teeth, 2 in the upper jaw, 2 in the lower jaw. When they do come through, they can cause problems with the established teeth.

The most common problems caused by wisdom teeth coming through are when they don’t have enough room to grow. This can cause food and bacteria to build up between the wisdom tooth and its neighbouring tooth, where there is little room to floss or brush properly. One of the most common problem caused by crowded wisdom teeth are painful infections.

Surgical* Dentistry

Surgical* dental work or extraction is also often required for orthodontic work, so room can be made in preparation for straightening teeth.

If required, Carrara Dental Practice have full facilities to perform one or more tooth extractions. Tooth extraction is a relatively common surgical* procedure and can be done quickly and pain free by our qualified dentist, right here at Carrara Dental Practice.

Surgical* dentistry can also be used for root canal treatment (also called “endodontic” treatment). This procedure is done to save a tooth that has been badly damaged due to decay, disease, or injury.
